The most popular aircraft in the world should have the product with the best performance record in the world. That, of course, is Met-Co-Aire’s Hoerner style wing tip. Designed from military research and applied to civilian aircraft, the Hoerner wing tip is one of the best modifications you can make to your aircraft. Their wing tip gives improvements in all of the important areas of aircraft performance, and usually costs less than a replacement part. Their design reduces drag while smoothing the airflow along the wing and control surfaces. By minimizing the vortices caused by the wing and actually having them start later, their tip gives performance increases without the usual penalties. They CAN get increases in climb and in cruise. They CAN reduce stall without adversely affecting handling. You may not think you’re taking off from a carrier, but you may think you are flying a new plane. Typical Improvements are: All Met-Co-Aire products are constructed of hand laid up, aircraft grade fiberglass in a polyester resin matrix. They come covered with a white gel-coat that serves as a primer for painting. Their Cessna tips come with both FAA STC and PMA approvals. |

Great product made out of fiberglass. The parts fit right in, however, I did have to remove the power pack that supplied power to the nav lights, since it was too bulky and did not let the wing tips fit properly. I also bought the LED nav lights which don’t require a power supply. Wingtips fit right in once this was done.
CESSNA HOERNER WING TIP (PAIR)
I got these wingtips for a 1968 Cessna 150F. I had already purchased SkyBeacon ADSB out but it wouldnt fit onto my original wingtips. I needed a flat mounting surface to bolt on the ADSB system. These worked great for mounting the SkyBeacon. The fit left a little gap from the wing surface so I caulked them to fill the gap. As far as performance, as soon as I bolted the wingtips on I noticed the airplane was wanting to jump out of the hanger so I had to keep it tied down. After I finally took off and knocked out a couple Lomcovaks I could really tell what a difference these products made. Between this and all the other products promising a 5 knot increase in speed, I should be cruising at Vne all day long on 5GPH. Now I am just trying to save up about $500 so I can afford a strobe anti-collision marker for the other side since my old factory lamps no longer fit with my new speed mods.
I would not purchase these for the promised increase in performance. We chose them because we replaced the stock tip lights with LEDs and would have had to do considerable fairing of the original tips to make the lights look integrated. These are expensive, but still cheaper than the stock Cessna tips. Installing them was relatively easy and the fit is good on our 172L.
I didnt notice any performance difference, but they look better.. Not sure they are worth the price.

Per manufacturer: This has a flat nav pad for standard navigation or navigation strobe assembly. The Whelen 660's would be a good option if you wanted to go LED.
